EXIF viewer & remover

EXIF viewer & remover

See camera, capture time and GPS data in photos, then losslessly remove EXIF, XMP and other metadata

Computed in your browser

Drop photos to see detected metadata and GPS locations. Cleaning happens immediately; download the files with the -clean suffix.

You can also paste an image from the clipboard. Images are processed in this browser and never uploaded. JPEG, PNG and WebP; up to 30 files, 50 MB each.

Example

Input

sample-exif.jpg (generated, with demo EXIF: camera Dayeku Demo Camera, GPS 31.2304, 121.4737)

Example result

sample-exif-clean.jpg · EXIF removed, including the GPS location; image data unchanged

The demo coordinates are sample values, not a real capture location. In the details table, GPS, serial numbers and other privacy-sensitive fields are highlighted in red.

Technical details & limits

JPEG is parsed by segment: APP1 (EXIF, XMP), APP13 (IPTC/Photoshop), COM comments and other application segments such as APP3–APP13 and APP15 are removed, while APP0 (JFIF), APP14 (Adobe), quantization and Huffman tables and scan data stay; APP2 ICC can be kept. PNG drops tEXt, zTXt, iTXt, eXIf and tIME chunks, optionally keeping iCCP. WebP drops EXIF and XMP chunks and updates the VP8X flags and RIFF length. Keeping orientation writes a 36-byte EXIF segment containing only Orientation. HEIC, AVIF, GIF and TIFF are not supported yet.

About this tool

View and remove metadata in JPEG, PNG and WebP images. See camera make and model, lens, capture time, exposure, body serial number and GPS coordinates, plus a list of EXIF, XMP, IPTC, comment and text blocks with their sizes. Removal deletes these blocks directly while the compressed image data is kept byte for byte with no re-encoding. Optionally keep the ICC color profile and the orientation flag. Batch processing and ZIP download are included; files are not uploaded.

How to use

  1. Drop, choose or paste JPEG, PNG or WebP images, up to 30 at a time.
  2. Review detected fields and metadata blocks in the details, and choose whether to keep the color profile or orientation flag.
  3. Download the cleaned files singly or as a ZIP.

Input & output

Input
JPEG, PNG and WebP files; up to 30 at a time, each at most 50 MB.
Output
Files in the original format with unchanged image data, named with a -clean suffix.
Limits
No HEIC, AVIF, GIF or TIFF; pixels and dimensions are untouched; watermarks or text drawn into the picture cannot be removed.

Notes

A cleaned file can still reveal information through its content, file name or the channel used to share it. Check whether the destination platform adds metadata of its own.

FAQ

How do I remove the GPS location from a photo before sharing it?
Drop the photo in and the details table highlights any GPS coordinates in red. The downloaded file with the -clean suffix has the entire EXIF segment removed, so the GPS data inside it is gone too, while the image data stays unchanged. You can process up to 30 photos at once, each up to 50 MB, and nothing is uploaded at any point during the process.
Does removing EXIF reduce image quality?
No. Only metadata segments are deleted; JPEG scan data is copied byte for byte, so the decoded pixels are identical to the original. The file usually shrinks, for example by removing a 12 KB embedded EXIF thumbnail. Keeping the ICC profile is recommended, because wide-gamut photos such as Display P3 images can otherwise shift in color on screens that honor color profiles.
Why did my photo turn sideways after removing metadata?
Phones often store orientation in the EXIF Orientation tag, with values from 1 to 8, instead of rotating the pixels. By default this page keeps a 36-byte EXIF segment containing only that tag. If you untick the option, a photo with orientation 6 will appear rotated by 90 degrees. Alternatively, bake the orientation into the pixels first with the rotate tool, then remove all metadata here.
