World time

Check the current time in a city, or convert a specific date and time from one city to another. Offsets are computed for the date you pick, not by applying today’s difference to the whole year.

      What this does

Every city is bound to an IANA time zone identifier such as Asia/Shanghai or America/New_York. The current time, UTC offset and daylight saving status are all derived from that identifier for the moment in question, rather than from a fixed offset.

A country can span several zones. Country pages list each zone with a representative city instead of giving one vague “country time”.

Zone rules come from the IANA time zone database shipped with the runtime and follow its updates. No external time service is called.

      FAQ

How accurate is the time shown here?
The first render uses server time as a starting point; the browser then keeps counting in the selected city’s zone. If the page is served from a cache and reopened later, the clock is recomputed for the current moment rather than continuing from when the cache was written.
Why is a city 45 minutes off?
Not every offset is a whole hour. Nepal is UTC+05:45, Eucla in Australia is UTC+08:45, and India and Iran use half-hour offsets. The actual offset is shown, never rounded.
      How is daylight saving handled?
It is evaluated for the date you ask about, not for today. Cities that do not observe DST show no changeover text; cities that do show whether DST is currently in effect and when the next change happens.
      Where are recent lookups stored?
In this browser’s localStorage. No sign-in, and nothing is sent to the server. Switching browsers or clearing site data removes them.
